COMMUNITY EAR ACUPUNCTURE
Community ear acupuncture is currently provided on every 2nd Saturday of the month. It is a physically distanced small group treatment of no more than 4 people at a time per hour. Ear acupuncture is a great introduction to Traditional Asian Medicine if one is curious about the medicine. It's also a powerful tune-up treatment for those who have not had a full acupuncture treatment for a while. Ear acupuncture works by regulating the body's nervous system to reduce mental and emotional imbalances, support detoxification, and also reduce pain in the body. A treatment is provided while sitting quietly in a chair and lasts for about 25 minutes. There is a sliding scale fee of $15-$30 due after treatment.
*Face coverings are required upon entry and during treatment.
HONORING BLACK HISTORY IN
COMMUNITY ACUPUNCTURE
"The Black Panthers and the Young Lords were the first to bring Acupuncture to the South Bronx."
This month we are honoring the roots of Acupuncture in America by highlighting the first detox Acupuncture program established in the Bronx in the 70’s during a time of grave health injustices and activism. The new film “Dope is Death” by Mia Donovan details the story and the work of how Dr. Mutulu Shakur, along with fellow Black Panthers and the Young Lords, combined community health with radical politics to create the first acupuncture detoxification program in America. This form of radical harm reduction was a revolutionary act toward the government programs that transfixed the lives of Black and Brown communities throughout the South Bronx. Dope is Death utilizes an abundant archive while giving us insight into how the Acupuncture clinic rose to prominence and, despite funding challenges, still functions to this day. Proceeds from this month's community ear acupuncture will be donated to the family and friends of Dr. Mutulu Shakur. Click here to view the film for free.
